Johanna lives in a totalitarian state characterised by a deeply religious, fundamentalist system. As long as people conform, they are fine. In principle, Johanna is satisfied with the system. She is religious, works as an election worker and dreams of one day living the social ideal herself: married, with children of her own, in a small terraced house. She hardly questions the fact that the elections are just for show. Nor does she question the fact that the party takes radical action against any woman who becomes pregnant out of wedlock or has an abortion.
But she also has a secret: Johanna has been having a forbidden affair with Christoph, the son of a party official. One day, she realises she is pregnant! As soon as he finds out, Christoph turns his back on her. So Johanna tries to come up with a plan with her best friend Kathi. But what exactly should she do? Keeping the baby is not an option. But abortion is strictly forbidden, and Johanna can't really reconcile it with her conscience. A solution must be found.
So, she decides to run away – to the countryside, where the state has less influence, but where everyone is also left to fend for themselves. However, her escape could trigger a political scandal that must be avoided at all costs...
